Matt Claussen, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. He completed his residency and Boards Certification specializing in family medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Swedish Family Medicine Residency Program. He is on staff as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado. Dr. Claussen is a co-founder of Aspen Family Care, established in 1997. He serves as the practice's medical director and enjoys all of the aspects and challenges of family medicine. He believes in an active approach to health and in developing close and trusting relationships with his patients.
Dr. Claussen provides preventive and acute care for newborns, children, adolescents and adults. Dr. Claussen particularly enjoys sports medicine, adolescent medicine and performing procedures, such as skin biopsies, laceration repairs and laser/phototherapy treatment for various skin conditions. Additionally, he has over of experience in performing vasectomies. He utilizes minimally invasive techniques to provide fast recovery with minimal downtime.
Dr. Claussen is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice (A.A.F.P.), American Medical Association, Colorado Medical Society, Phi Beta Kappa, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Senior Clinical Faculty Member for Family Medicine and Red Rocks Community College Primary Care Tract Clinical Instructor for Physician Assistants. He continues ongoing training and certification with the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Claussen received his second board certification in Aesthetic Medicine with the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine in 2011.
Dr. Claussen enjoys outdoor activities including sports, running biking, hiking, skiing, photography, painting, music, playing guitar, and gardening.

Spencer “Spence” Walker, MD, completed undergraduate studies in biology and graduate studies in neurobiology at the University of Texas prior to receiving his medical degree from the University of Illinois. He completed his residency training and internship in family medicine with the Southern Colorado Family Medicine Residency Program in Pueblo, Colorado. Following residency, Dr. Walker served in the United States Air Force as an attending physician at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. After the completion of his military service, Dr. Walker returned to Colorado where he has served as a family medicine physician for nearly 10 years, and has received Top Doc and Patients’ Choice awards.
Dr. Walker is board certified in family medicine with the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the Colorado Medical Society. He provides compassionate, comprehensive and personalized preventive and acute care for all family members. Dr. Walker enjoys the full spectrum of family medicine, and holds special interests in pediatrics, women’s health, diabetes, and performing procedures, such as skin biopsies, laceration repairs and cyst removals. He believes that building strong relationships with his patients; mutual respect; listening; taking the time to explain procedures, conditions and options; extensive training and experience; and continuing medical education are some of the key factors in providing high quality healthcare. His ability to deliver exceptional patient care with a friendly, down to earth attitude has resulted in patients driving more than 100 miles to seek out his continued care.
Dr. Walker resides in Centennial with his wife and son. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing basketball and soccer, watching sports, listening to and studying music, playing guitar, photography, cooking, and reading.

Naomi Mata, MD received her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008. She completed her residency at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, California in 2011. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine since 2011 and is an active member of the American Academy of Family Medicine. Following residency she joined an outpatient family medicine clinic in California's Bay Area where she worked for 3 years. She moved to Colorado in the fall of 2014. Naomi enjoys seeing patients of all ages and is particularly passionate about preventative medicine. She encourages patients to take an active role in their own health and welcomes their involvement in decision making to reach the best outcome.
She was raised in Oklahoma and completed her undergraduate studies in architecture at the University of Oklahoma. She has enjoyed living throughout the US and has always loved the mountains so is fortunate to call Golden home. Her day is complete by spending time with her husband Dave, their dog Red and a trail run or crossfit workout. When she has more time you’ll find her backpacking, learning something she didn’t know before, connecting with distant friends and family, or tackling a home improvement project.

Bau (“Bo”) Tran, PA-C, PharmD., received his Physician Assistant certification in 2008 at Red Rocks Community College Physician Assistant Program in Lakewood, CO and his Master’s of Medical Sciences from St. Francis University. He completed a physician assistant residency program in Critical Care Medicine with an emphasis in Emergency Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. His philosophy of practice is to guide patients through each stage of life maintaining and/or improving good individual health utilizing various means including education, prevention, and disease management.
Prior to his work at Aspen Family Care, Bau received his Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1997 and his Doctorate in Pharmacology in 2001 from the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. He has worked as a clinical pharmacist for over 17 years in both the hospital and academic settings. In addition to working at Aspen Family Care, he is a registered pharmacist and currently works at Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO as clinical pharmacist in the Pediatric Unit. He is currently working toward his Master in Clinical Toxicology from the University of Florida.
Bau is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physician (F.C.C.P.), the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Physician Assistant and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Bau comes to Colorado in 2002 from Dallas, Texas where he fell in love with the beautiful scenery, majestic mountains, and abundance of outdoor activities. He resides in Castle Rock with his beautiful twins, Ava and Parker. He enjoys camping, skiing/snowboarding, tennis, running, hiking, and reading.

Summer Irelan, PA-C, earned her Master’s of Medical Sciences from St. Francis University and received her Physician Assistant certification from Red Rocks Community College in Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in math and an emphasis in chemistry from Regis University.
Prior to working at Aspen Family Care, Summer has worked as a hospitalist physician assistant at St. Joseph's, Presbyterian / St. Luke’s, Good Samaritan and at Vibra Long Term Acute Care Hospital. She has extensive experience working in internal medicine and geriatrics. Since joining Aspen Family Care in 2012, she has enjoyed working with not only adults, but with adolecents and children. Summer believes in treating the whole patient and believes strongly that prevention and education are key components to disease management. Summer also encourages proper nutrition and exercise to all of her patients.
Summer is an active member with the Colorado Academy of Physician Assistants (CAPA) and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). She has served as a board member for CAPA. She was a leadership scholar throughout her undergraduate education and was consistently on the Dean’s list. Summer was the Director of Diversity at Red Rocks Community College and served the community through many service-oriented projects.
Summer enjoys hiking, trail running, mountain biking, open water swimming, rafting and camping. Her personal accomplishments include completing her first half marathon in 2013 and reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2011. She is currently working on climbing all of Colorado's 14ers.

Jason Perrow PA-C received his medical degree from Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina State University. Jason has almost ten years of experience in family practice and cares for people of all ages. His heart lies in family practice because he enjoys getting to know people and feels that continuity of care is critical to achieve positive results. . He believes strongly in preventive medicine and feels that it is one of the keys to a long, healthy life. He enjoys all areas of family medicine, particularly men’s health, sports medicine and testosterone replacement therapy along with other endocrine disorders including diabetes. He considers himself down to earth, practical and somewhat of a good ole’ boy.
After vacationing in Colorado for several years he wondered why anyone would want to live anywhere else. He and his family decided to fulfill their “manifest destiny” and move out west. He is a family man and loves to spend time with his wife Lori, a veterinarian, and his daughter Quinn, who hopes to be a cowgirl. Jason enjoys hiking, hunting, fishing, competing in triathlons (he has finished 3 Ironman triathlons) and playing with his four dogs-Patton, Montgomery (Monty), Josie and Sam. He hopes to learn to ski, rock climb and summit all of the 14ers.
Ashley Birger, PA-C, received her Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies-Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program with special focus on the evaluation and treatment of illness in children. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in both Biology and Chemistry at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she ran competitively for the track and cross country teams. She is a current member of Colorado Academy of Physician Assistants (CAPA) and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
As a native to Colorado, she enjoys running for the Boulder Running Company/Adidas Retail Race Team along with her husband, who is her training partner and coach. She also enjoys skiing, biking, camping, and reading. Her two rabbits and two young beagles, Gunner and Jett keep the family very busy!
Ashley has a passion for sports medicine given her 10+ years of competitive running and experience with many running-related injuries. She enjoys creating diet and exercise programs for weight loss, cholesterol and blood pressure management. Her passions extend to pediatrics and women’s health care, as well as treating depression and anxiety.
